Dr WU, Wen-li Wendy

  • MA, PhD (Warwick)

Dr Wu completed her PhD thesis on international East Asian (Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Thai and Korean) postgraduate students' experience of cross-cultural adjustment at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 2008. In view of repeated research findings which show that English language proficiency is a problematic area for a large number of Asian students, Dr Wu therefore focused her research on language learning issues. Her special interest in language learning also arose from her background as an English language teacher in mainland China for four years and her living and working experience in England for seven years.

Dr Wu has taught Chinese as a foreign language to adult language learners at the Language Centre of the University of Warwick. This experience offered her a valuable opportunity to practice her teaching and classroom management skills in a Western context.

While staying in England, Dr Wu had worked for the International Office at the University of Warwick for four years, where she was responsible for running campus tours for prospective students and their parents, arranging orientation programmes for new students, leading trips all year around to places of interests in the UK for international students, and acting as English-Chinese interpreter for Chinese visiting scholars.

In 2009, Dr Wu was working on “Internationalisation-Outcomes Project” at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd). At HKIEd, she was also responsible for teaching “Hong Kong History and Culture” to exchange students who were studying at the Institute.

Dr Wu is actively engaged in conference presentations as well as independent research both in Chinese and English. Her publications include referred journals, book chapters and conference proceedings.
