Dr Geeta G Bhavnani has been working in the field of English Language Teaching for over 20 years, having taught at various institutes such as the Vocational Training Council and at local secondary schools before joining this institution in 2005.
She has been involved in programme development on the BA (Hons) Scheme in Language and Communication; she also served as a Work-Integrated Education (WIE) Advisor.
She is currently a Lecturer in the Division of Languages and Communication and serves as Assistant English Team Leader. She also advises students on various programmes as an Integrated Studies Supervisor.
She is a trained Cambridge BULATS examiner/marker and an OET interlocutor; she has also gained an in-depth knowledge of the HKDSE English Language papers.
Dr Bhavnani’s Doctoral Degree is in Language Sciences. Her research was an extensive study on the Sindhi population in Hong Kong using both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Her research revolves around sociolinguistics, bilingualism, multilingualism, translanguaging, and code switching and how they relate to identity.
As a Business and Workplace English lecturer, she is particularly interested in showing students how to develop and use English, both inside and outside the classroom.
Being fluent in English, Cantonese, Hindi and Sindhi, Dr Bhavnani is interested in studying how identity and languages are negotiated in multicultural Hong Kong.
