Conference on “Smart Tourism in the Greater Bay Area” Attracts over 100 Participants

The Conference on “Smart Tourism in the Greater Bay Area” was held at Hotel ICON by PolyU SPEED on 23 August 2022. Academic researchers and industry practitioners from around the world were invited to share their insights regarding smart tourism in the Greater Bay Area. Over 100 participants attended the conference either in person or online.
This conference was one of the activities of the “Research Directions and Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Smart Tourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA)” project funded by the Inter-Institutional Development Scheme under the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee. It provided a platform for scholars to familiarise themselves with the latest technology in smart tourism and innovative business, to foster research collaborations between the GBA and overseas countries, and to stimulate discussions conducive to the development of research in smart tourism.
The School was honoured to have Prof. Dimitrios Buhalis, Visiting Professor, School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Ms Kara Yeung, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Cruise & Yacht Industry Association, as the keynote speakers. They shared their insights about “The Future of Smart Tourism” and “Marine Recreation & Eco-tourism” respectively.
