English Survival Workshops Equip Freshmen for Academic Success

To support new students as they begin their academic journey in an English-intensive environment, the Division of Languages and Communication of PolyU CPCE conducted two “English Survival” orientation workshops on 3 and 4 September 2026. The sessions drew an impressive turnout of 325 freshmen, reflecting their enthusiasm to embark on college life.

The workshops introduced the participants to the compulsory English course offered in their first semester and provided practical strategies for effective study and communication in a tertiary education setting. Students were also encouraged to make full use of the College’s language enhancement activities and resources to strengthen their English proficiency and achieve their academic goals.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many highlighted the value of learning about the educational use of AI tools, noting that AI‑assisted approaches to English learning would be both practical and highly relevant as they prepare for their studies.
