Course Information

Aims

This course is designed to inspire and develop individuals with effective and motivational training. It will enable practitioners to harness the full potential of a training group by facilitating discussion and participation. How to adapt trainers’ training course to suit different clients and how to apply different learning processes in order to keep clientele’s attention by delivering stimulating sessions are but a few of the skills that you will learn during this course.

 

Furthermore, you will build up core competencies under HRM of qualification framework for best practices in a learning environment. The course focuses on the key phases and dimensions of training; contracting; design and development; and evaluation.

 

Intended Learning Outcomes 

  • To demonstrate professional knowledge and competence in designing, managing and evaluating a range of learning and teaching practices within the PVE context;

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of different training strategies and assessment approaches and to make continuous improvement in the PVE context through lifelong learning

  • To facilitate and manage training programmes for different job levels and learning styles

  • To demonstrate a practical understanding of ethical issues in PVE practice to contextualise the learning and its application to one's own professional practice.

Course Content

​​​​​​1. Training approach and delivery

  • Understand the subject matter of the training programme that will be designed and / or delivered 

  • Organize L&D programmes with appropriate programme content and selection of participants, to meet individuals’ learning needs and expectations as well as the organization’s business direction 

  • Executive quality assurance mechanism in place to monitor the delivery of L&D programmes 

  • Adopt relevant measures for evaluating effectiveness of the L&D programmes  

 

2. Training and Development Knowledge

  • Identify competency gaps at organizational level and individual development needs with relevant methodologies and tools (e.g. training needs analysis, competency-based performance reviews) 

  • Assess current workforce capabilities in terms of skill sets and competencies and project the required capabilities for the future workforce 

  • Analyze employees’ individual development plans and provide constructive feedback on development effectiveness 

  • Leverage on latest technology for improving L&D programme 

 

3. Programme design and development in organisations 

  • Understand key elements of effective L&D programme in collaboration with all / relevant departments in the organization
  • Apply the key elements of L&D programme within the talent management cycle
  • Adjust agenda, content and method of the L&D programme 
  • Manage stakeholder expectations 


4. Management of training functions

  • Understand the key components and process of developing effective L&D policies 

  • Draw up training proposals 

  • Understand programme marketing and promotion 

  • Engage relevant reports related to L&D programmes  

Entry Requirements

The applicants should :

  • have 5 passes in HKCEE (including English language and Chinese language at level  2 or grade E); OR 
  • have 5 subjects in HKDSE (including English language and Chinese language) at level 2; OR 
  • have satisfactory completion of a recognized Diploma Programme or equivalent; OR  
  • have reached the age of 25 at course commencement and have at least 2 years or above working experience  
     

Applicants do not possess the above entry requirements will be considered on case-by-case basis. These applicants are required to attend an admission interview for better understanding of their goals and experiences.

Certification

Students who have completed and passed the assessments, and attended at least 70% of the course will be presented with a Professional Certificate awarded by PolyU SPEED.

1.  Application form can be downloaded from this website.  Before completing the application form, please read carefully the "Guide for Applicants" on the form.
 

2.  Please submit the completed application form with a copy of your HKID card and settle the course fee by bank draft/ crossed cheque/ On-line Card Payment System for each course applied. For details of payment methods, please refer to Section 4 of the application form or this web page.
 

3.  Non-permanent residents of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) holding

(i) work visa/ entry permit; OR

(ii) visa/ entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan); OR

(iii) dependent visa/ entry permit (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan), issued by the Director of Immigration of HKSAR Government may enroll in short-term courses in SPEED without seeking prior approval from the Director of Immigration.


These applicants are required to attach a copy of their identity document(s) and the valid visa/ entry permit to their application.  On admission, they will be required to provide the original identity document(s) and visa/ entry permit for verification. Throughout the course of study, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure that their identity documents and visas/ entry permits are valid. Other non-local applicants can neither be registered as students nor commence their studies on the short-term courses in SPEED.

Payment Methods for Course Fee

(1)  Bank Draft/ Crossed Cheque

You could submit a bank draft/ crossed cheque (made payable to "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University") by post.  Please write your name, the course code and class code at the back of the bank draft/ crossed cheque.  Post-dated cheque will not be accepted.

 

(2)  Online Payment Portal (by FPS/ Visa/ Master/ China UnionPay card)
You could settle the course fee via On-line Card Payment System by FPS/ Visa/ Master/ China UnionPay card.  For successful payment, please print the payment confirmation page for record and quote the invoice number (as shown on the payment confirmation page) on Section 4 of the application form. No separate hardcopy of the payment receipt will be issued for you.

 

According to the School's Refund Policy, course fees paid are normally not refundable, except cases of unsuccessful applications/ course cancellation.  Fees paid and places allocated are not transferrable.
